former U.S. Marine, as well as the founder and President/CEO of Ebony Horsewomen, Inc., Patricia E. Kelly, is an avid community leader, an award-winning activist for innovative therapeutic approaches for urban youth, and a leading authority on equine assisted therapy.

Initially started in 1984 as a cultural and social enrichment organization for Black female equestrians, Patricia Kelly took note of the grip drugs and violence had on her community and the impact those social problems had on neighboring youth. So, in 1987, Ebony Horsewomen became Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. and was turned into an equestrian and agricultural center with a fully functioning farm housing horses and other animals; and a safe space for youth to receive education, therapy, and personal development using comprehensive programs, equine and animal-assisted therapy, and S.T.E.M. classes.

Serving over 300 young boys and girls per year, Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. is the only equine youth organization of its kind in the Hartford, CT area, and has proudly cultivated poised, civic-minded, and conscientious young leaders who have participated in parades and horse shows, and have gone on to earn degrees and certifications at noted colleges and universities.

Patricia Kelly is an engaging keynote speaker with an interesting perspective on mental health by means of equine and animal-assisted therapy. Her knowledge speaks directly to health disparities and offers new approaches.

Mrs. Kelly is a recent inductee of the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame & Museum, a 2014 CNN Top 10 Hero award recipient, has made appearances on The Queen Latifah Show and The Dr. Oz Show, was recognized as one of Aetna's 2015 Champions for Change, and was, most recently, featured in Brookside Chocolate's "Ballsy Women" campaign celebrating remarkable and inspiring women.
